Did you know?:Auburn and Alabama didn’t play for 47 years
(1908-1947) as the two schools feuded over referees and

Did you know?:After the SEC expanded to 12 teams,
scheduling revision forced this SEC rivalry to be scheduled
on dates besides the third Saturday of October. Also
following the 1961 Alabama win that marked Bear Bryant’s
first coaching appearance in this rivalry, a team trainer
handed out victory cigars. The tradition lasted decades until
the NCAA nipped it in the bud.

Legend has it that Auburn’s “War Eagle” rally cry gained flight
in the school’s 1892 game. An eagle broke free from a Civil
War veteran and began circling the field. Auburn fans began
chanting “War Eagle.
