However, they have only met seven times in history, resulting in a heated rivalry that continues to this day. The first meeting between Notre Dame and Ohio State took place in 1935, resulting in a 18-13 victory for the Irish. The following season saw the two teams face off again with Notre capturing a 7-2 victory
Nearly six decades would pass before the two schools would face off again. The 1995 game saw Ohio State defeat Notre Dame 45 to 26. Ohio State would emerge with a win the next season with the Buckeyes defeating the Irish 29 to 16.
Two Fiesta Bowl matchups brought the schools together following the 2005 and 2015 seasons. The Buckeyes beat the Irish in the 2006 Fiesta Bowl 34-20 and then whipped the Irish 44-28 in the 2016 Fiesta Bowl
