Discover the NFL Franchises that have earned the most Super Bowl victories since the first one was played following the 1966 AFL and NFL Championships. Along with the number of Lombardi trophies gained by each franchise, we spotlight the years the titles were won and the Super Bowl win-loss record for these teams.
Although NFL championships were first determined more than four decades before the first Super Bowl, the success of National Football League franchises is now firmly defined by how many Super Bowls that a franchise has won. Initially known as the AFL-NFL World Championship Game, the first Super Bowl was played on January 15, 1967 with the NFL’s Green Bay Packers defeating the AFL champion Kansas City Chiefs 35-10.
Although the first game failed to sellout, pro football’s new championship event quickly gained momentum and by its third edition was formally known as the Super Bowl. Since then the game has evolved into being the most watched television event of the year and it’s many winners such as Pittsburgh, Dallas, San Francisco and New England have gained dynasty status with the most Super Bowl titles.

Bradshaw and the Steel Curtain Led the Way
When it comes to successful NFL franchises, the Pittsburgh Steelers are always at the top of the list. The team’s six Super Bowl victories are a testament to their skill and determination on the field. But when talking about the Steelers’ incredible run of success in the 70s, one player, in particular, stands out: Terry Bradshaw.
The Louisiana Tech alum was the driving force behind Pittsburgh’s four Super Bowl titles, and his tenacity and leadership under pressure earned him two MVP awards. Bradshaw’s contributions were instrumental in establishing the Steelers as one of the most dominant teams in NFL history.
Bradshaw led his team to wins over the Minnesota Vikings, the Dallas Cowboys twice and the Los Angeles Rams.
Joe Cool Led 49er Dominance
Joe Montana will forever be known as one of the greatest quarterbacks in NFL history. His accomplishments with the San Francisco 49ers are legendary, particularly his role in leading the franchise to their first four Super Bowls. Under Montana’s direction, the 49ers dominated their opponents, winning four of their five Super Bowl appearances. Perhaps even more impressive than the team’s record was Montana’s performance, as he was named the Super Bowl MVP in three of the team’s four wins. Montana’s victories came against formidable AFC champions, including the Cincinnati Bengals (twice), Miami Dolphins, and Denver Broncos. His impact on the game of football cannot be overstated, and he will always be remembered as a true legend of the sport.
