Lamar Jackson – 2016 Heisman Trophy Winner
Jackson became Louisville’s first Heisman winner with an incredible 2016 season. The sophomore quarterback threw for 31 touchdowns; he ran for a total of 22 scores while leading the Cardinals to a 9-3 regular season. Jackson earned (2,144 )points in the Heisman voting while Clemson QB Deshaun Watson finished second with (1.524) voting points. Two Oklahoma Sooners finished third and fourth in the voting with QB Baker Mayfield earning (361) points and OU WR Dede Westbrook finishing fourth with (209) points.
After starting eight games as freshman, Jackson quickly turned the 2016 campaign into a breakout season by leading the Cardinals to a stunning 63-20 home victory over No. 2 ranked Florida State. Jackson added four rushing TD’s and passed for another as Louisville smashed their ACC rival.
Jackson’s stats remained impressive through the season as the Louisville signal caller made a strong case for the Heisman. During the regular season, Jackson completed 58 percent of his passes (220 of 382) for 3,390 yards and 30 touchdowns with nine interceptions. He ran the ball 234 times for 1,538 yards and 21 touchdowns.
