Lawrence - 2019 Heisman Favorite
After a tremendous freshman season that culminated in leading his Clemson Tigers to a 44-16 thumping of Alabama in the 2019 College Football Playoffs Championship game, Trevor Lawrence has emerged as a top 2019 Heisman Trophy Candidate. As a true freshman in 2019, Lawrence threw for 3,280 yards and 30 TD’s vs 4 INT’s. The 6’6″, 215 pound signal caller also rushed for 177 yards and a score on the season. Lawrence did not capture the starting position until 5 games into the 2018 campaign. However by season’s end, Lawrence was producing results that many seniors would be proud of.
Lawrence dismantled Notre Dame in the first round of the College Football Playoffs by throwing for 327 yards and 3 TD’s in the Tigers 30-3 win. The final stop of the season was against Alabama’s vaunted defense in the CFP Championship Game in which Lawrence gave Nick Saban heartburn by throwing for 347 yards and 3 scores against the Tide.
With the national spotlight shining on Lawrence, his continued emergence along with continued Clemson football success in 2019, will add him to the list of players who have been Clemson Heisman Candidates.
