 | | Michigan State Football National Championships: The Spartans have won |
| | or shared 6 college football national championships throughout the storied program’s history. The wild championship flurry blew hard during a decade and a half period beginning in the early 1950s. The University’s national titles were earned in 1951, 1952, 1955, 1957, 1965 and 1966. The first two championships were led by Head Coach Clarence Munn who in six seasons in East Lansing, posted an incredible 54-9-2 record. Head Coach Duffy Daugherty’s 18- year Spartan coaching span began in 1954. Under his guidance, MSU claimed 4 national championships and while Daugherty’s teams logged a 109-69-5 record.

| | Each season Spartans Green tackles the Maize & Glue for the Paul Bunyan-Governor of Michigan Trophy. The two schools have played for that trophy since 1953. Other Rivalry trophy games include Penn State (Land Grant Trophy), Notre Dame (Megaphone Trophy), and Indiana (Old Brass Spittoon)

 | | Game of the Century: Michigan State’s 1966 contest against Notre Dame is |
| | regarded by many as the “Game of the Century.” The game featured Duffy Daugherty’s #2 ranked Spartans hosting Ara Parseghian’s top ranked Notre Dame Fighting Irish in the late-season November 19th contest. The hard fought game ended in a 10-10 time and afterwards both university’s claimed a national championship.
