Before Jones Came to Bama
|
While in high school, Julio Jones earned a stellar reputation on the field and in the classroom. Besides earning a 3.5 GPA and graduating a semester early, Jones amazed college recruiters with his blazing speed that was once clocked at a 4.38 40-yard dash. Jones has drawn physical comparisons to Michael Irvin, Terrell Owens and Larry Fitzgerald. With the combination of his tremendous size and blazing speed, Jones was rated as the #2 overall prospect by ESPN and #4 top recruiting prospect by Rivals as he prepared to sign his letter of intent in February 2008. Although Florida, Florida State, Texas, Oklahoma and Texas Tech recruited Julio Jones, the Foley, Alabama native stayed home to play for the Tide. While at Foley High School, Jones caught 194 passes for 3,287 yards and 43 TD's. Showing off his additional skills, Jones scored three rushing TD's while also returning two punts and two kickoffs for TD's.
